One of the top New Year’s Resolutions is to get healthy and fit. We start out strong with the first few months but then our budget gets in the way and we soon realize that $30 a month gym membership isn’t practical or realistic. But don’t give up on your fitness goals, don’t give up on your health because there are several things you can do to push forward with your health goals that won’t break your budget.

Go Outside!
One of the many great things about living in South Florida is that we have a gym everywhere we look. Think about it, our backyards make for great gyms, our driveways, the sidewalk, the many parks we have and even the street can all make for a great gym… and a gym that’s free too! If you’re idea of working out is cardio, then go for a run around your neighborhood, down the block or run to the grocery story (Depending upon how close you live of course). Maybe running isn’t the most appealing type of exercise, that’s okay because you can set up a mini boot camp out back or in your drive way. Plus, check out your local parks, more and more parks are adding a fitness components such as pull up bars, hurdles, sit- up stations that allow for you to get a great workout while enjoying the South Florida weather… all for free.
Kick up the AC!
If working out outside isn’t ideal, keep your workouts indoors and turn to the internet. YouTube has tons of FREE workout videos. All you have to do is search and press play. You can even create playlist to help ensure you are working out all areas of your body equally, because the last thing you want to do is work out your arms and not your legs. YouTube is a great way to get a fun workout in and you can work out from virtually anywhere. Just pull up YouTube on your phone, tablet, computer or even your TV (Yes there are ways to stream to our TV’s now).
Another option to get in a great work out without having to leave the house is On Demand. On Demand is a great resources with tons of free video workouts… well maybe not free, but it’s usually included in your cable bill, so why not use it.
So maybe you have basic cable, no On Demand, no internet and you hate the idea of going outside to get a workout in, especially when it’s our rainy season. Don’t worry, I have one last option for you, the local library. Getting a library card is free and will provide you with unlimited resources for achieving your fitness goals. Plus, walking up and down the row of library books and DVD’s is a great way to get that extra little bit of cardio in.
There are tons of ways to get healthy and stay in shape without having to break your budget. Don’t over think it, instead use the resources available to you and think outside the box when it comes to your fitness. Also remember that weight loss is 80% in the kitchen and 20% working out.
