Super Bowl of Savings!

Falcons or Patriots? Which team are you favoring for this year’s super bowl? No matter how you feel about football, the super bowl is that one game a year you end up watching… even if it’s just for the commercials.

I recently heard a great comment on the radio and I think this pretty much sums up the super bowl for a lot of us, “if you want to actually watch the game… stay home.” Super bowl parties have become less about the game and more about the food and fun!  If you’re hosting a super bowl party this year, you’re in luck because I’ve got some tips and tricks to make it memorable and keep you within your budget!

Pick a theme!

Creating a theme for your party is a great way to get everyone excited about the super bowl. There are many ideas but these are just a few, you can stick with the tradition
al football theme or spice it up and have a southern theme or maybe you can center your party around one player or number. You can also do a color scheme based on the teams. There are endless options when it comes to creating a theme for your party so have some fun with it!

Make it a potluck!

Potlucks are one of the easiest ways to host a party while on a budget. Plus, it takes away a lot of the stress from you. Simply let your guest know the theme and ask them to prepare a dish to bring. This allows your guest to have a role in the party and allows everyone to try new recipes. Just be sure that you keep track of who’s bringing what, the last thing you need is five of those seven layer dips and no chips!

Backyard Tailgate!

We live in South Florida, which means we have tailgating weather year round. So why not bring the party to the backyard! Hot dogs and hamburgers are a few of the easiest foods to cook up add a few side dishes and even paint your faces if you truly want to get into the spirit. Having a tailgate will make you feel like you’re at the game but from the comfort of the South Florida heat! Plus, most tailgates everyone is willing to bring something so this goes along great with hosting a potluck!

It’s all in the layout!

When it comes to setting out food, spread it out and stagger the food. Don’t bring all the food out at once because it will go before you even bring out the last tray of chips. Instead, stagger the time and location of the food. Allow people to move freely through your home. This will help cut down a number of wasteful foods and it will allow you to see which items are most popular. So if the cheese platter isn’t a big hit, you know you don’t have to keep adding to it and you won’t be throwing away as much come to the end of the night.

Plus, when you spread out the food, it eliminates your guest from sitting in once place eating the entire seven-layer dip. It makes them mingle, walk around try other dishes.

Create a shopping plan!

When it comes to food for the super bowl, don’t be afraid to buy items that are store bought if it cost less.  Sometimes it might take you longer to create those jalapeño poppers then if you just purchased them from the store. Everyone will still love them and if you discard the box elsewhere, they will never know the difference.

Also know ahead of time the items you need when shopping, create a list, search for coupons and be sure to get to the story early. Even consider buying some items in bulk from a wholesale store, like the chips, burgers, and buns.  You’ll save a lot and you’ll know you have plenty for your guests.

We hope that you have an awesome super bowl party and enjoy the game… okay, enjoy the commercials.
